Nigerian meat pie with oat flour

Everyone in Nigeria enjoys the common snack known as “Nigerian Meat Pie.” The richly flavored mincemeat is baked inside the buttery shortcrust pastry. You won’t be able to stop at just one since it is so good. Do you want to discover the secret to making the best meat pie? You should try this recipe.

Today, we’re going to make Nigerian meat pie in yet another manner. All of the other meat pie recipes call for all-purpose flour (also known as plain flour), but the one we’re making today just calls for oat flour, which is a healthy flour.

Ingredients for Oat Flour-based Nigerian Meat Pie

For the Meat Pie with oat flour Filling:

  • 180g (6oz) ground beef or minced beef
  • 1 little carrot
  • 1 little potato
  • ½ onion
  • 1 tablespoon oat flour
  • Tsp of thyme
  • 1 vegetable oil seasoning cube
  • (To taste) salt

To make the oat flour dough for the meat pie:

  • 500g oat flour and 175g of butter or margarine
  • Baking powder, 1 teaspoon
  • 12 teaspoon of salt

  • To use glazing:
  • 1 egg

Instructions:

  1. making the dough:

Add flour, salt, sugar (if using), and butter to a small mixing dish.
Rub until all are reduced to crumbs.
Once everything is blended, add 100 cc of water. If the dough still requires water, add a tablespoon at a time until you have thoroughly incorporated dough, as shown in image 5.
Prepare the meaty filling first, then set the dough aside for 30 minutes in a cool area or the refrigerator.
Yes! It really is simple to make the dough, but be careful not to handle it too vigorously.

2. To create the delicious pie filling:


On medium heat, add the oil to the pan. After 2 minutes, add the chopped onions and cook them until they are translucent. Stir the minced meat with the onion till it turns brown. Add the curry powder, thyme, stock cube, and a dash of salt. If necessary, lower the heat to prevent burning.
The sauce should be juicy because to the fat in the mince, but if it seems dry, add a cooking spoon’s worth (100 ml) of water. (If the oil is too much, decant it)
Cook the boiling potatoes and carrots for an additional three to five minutes over low heat after adding them.
Now, the meat should be well cooked. The next step is to thicken the mince.
To make a paste, add 2 tablespoons of flour to a bowl and stir in the water. When the minced beef is heated, add the paste, and combine well. Give it one more minute to cook. Remove the heat and let it cool.


Making Nigerian Meat Pie with Oat Flour is the same process as making Nigerian Meat Pie using any of the recipes given above, but watch the video below for additional advice. Oat flour is gluten-free, so it needs specific treatment to transform into a flexible dough that you can use to make fantastic meat pies.

Note:

  • For this dish, salted butter is also an option. Please don’t add salt when making the shortcrust pastry if you plan to use it.
  • If the mince filling appears too thick or dry, add a little water.
  • Before adding the pie dough, let the meat pie filling cool fully.
  • Instead of using cups, weigh the ingredients for the pastry on a kitchen scale. 500g of ground beef weighs 1.1 pounds, but 1 cup of all-purpose flour weighs 128g and 1 cup of butter weighs 225g.
